1 Day Guides

When you only have one day, how much travel can you really do? It turns out: quite a lot!

I never let having “only” one day stop me from exploring. The articles on this page will help you do the same. Maybe you’ve got a free day in your itinerary, or you have one day of PTO you want to put to good use. No reason to let it go to waste!

Here are my top tips for making the most of a one-day itinerary:

1. Plan Ahead

If you only have one day, don’t waste a minute surfing the internet or getting inspired on Instagram (aka distracted by Stories).

Instead, start planning the night before to fill your day. Look for 2-3 half-day activities you can do during the morning, afternoon, and evening. You might want to check out doing a guided 2-4 hour tour as part of your day, to help fill your time in an organized way.

2. Pack for the Day

When you set out for a one day itinerary of adventure, bring everything you need. You won’t want to have to pop back to your hotel or Airbnb.

Wear comfortable shoes and grab an extra layer, even if the weather looks good. Make sure you grab a bottle of water, and a granola bar or something for a snack. You’ll be prepared for whatever the day brings.

3. Travel Light

This is my mantra, but if you only have one day, you don’t want to be bogged down with all your luggage or extra bags.

If your one free day includes moving from one place to another, consider checking your luggage into a left-luggage facility or with a service like LuggageHero. You can leave your bags for a few hours then come back before you move to your next destination.

Now you’re all set to explore my one-day itineraries – or start planning your own!
